Weyerhaeuser Co. will shut a 70-year-old paper machine at its Johnsonburg, Pa., fine paper mill immediately as part of its efforts to increase profits and productivity in its paper operations.
The Johnsonburg site also operates two other fine paper machines, and those operations will not be affected by the closure.
The machine being closed produced about 38,000 tons a year of lightweight printing and trade book grades.
Over the past several months Weyerhaeuser has been announcing an ambitious plan to cut production throughout its supply change. The company recenty announced plans to shutter a corrugated medium machine in Hawesville, Ky. That mill was recently acquired from Willamette Industries earlier this year.
