The export of recovered fiber posted a sharp increase for September, compared to figures the same time last year. According to the U.S. Commerce Department, slightly more than 950,000 tons of recovered fiber with a value of $101 million were exported from the United States in September, a 6.2 percent increase from figures the same time last year.
The jump in exports continues an upward trend in overall exports through the first nine months of the year. According to the Commerce Department, paper stock exports, on an annual rate, year to date, stand at slightly more than 11 million tons, compared to last year’s export total of about 10.5 million tons.
The improvement in exports was realized in a number of areas, with shipments to Canada climbing by 12.3 percent. For September, total exports stand at 2.527 million tons, pushing the annual rate, year to date, to 2.527 million tons.
