Paper, plastic scrap consumers take center stage at Barcelona event

November Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference Europe includes two panel discussions featuring leading paper and plastic scrap consumers.

Representatives from several European companies who make products using paper and plastic scrap will discuss the state of the continent’s recycling sector at the 2019 Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference Europe event, taking place Nov. 5-6 in Barcelona.

The event’s programming the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 6, consists of two separate panel discussions—one featuring paper mill recovered fiber buyers and the other comprised of manufacturers who use plastic scrap as their feedstock.

The Paper Mill Buyers Panel will include representatives from DS Smith, SAICA, the Stora Enso Group and the Lucart Group, each of whom will offer insights into the supply, demand, quality and freight issues that are impacting the future of paper recycling in Europe. The discussion will be moderated by United States-based paper recycling consultant Bill Moore of Moore & Associates.

That same morning, the R-Polymer Consumer Panel will feature representatives from Europe’s growing plastic scrap consumer sector, who will discuss developments in the fast-changing world of recycled-content polymers production. Panelists include representatives from Spain-based Grupo Lantero and Traxpo S.L.U., plus the chief sustainability officer of South Korea-based SONGWON, which has operations in Europe.

Additional sessions at Paper & Plastics Recycling Conference Europe, which is being hosted at the Hilton Barcelona, will delve into the changes roiling packaging, plastic and paper markets as governments, corporations and individuals around the world seek sustainable outcomes.

Protectionist measures, including Brexit and China’s ongoing barriers to imported scrap materials, will provide another topic of discussion at the conference, which has been hosted in Europe annually since 2005 by the United States-based Recycling Today Media Group.

An opening keynote address at the conference by Federico Santi will focus on political risks facing business owners in Europe.
