The Paper and Packaging Board (P+PB), McLean, Virginia, has added four new board members appointed by U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
The P+PB is governed by board members appointed by the sitting U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Its mission is to promote the use of paper products and paper-based packaging by highlighting how their sustainable nature, the industry’s practices and recycling help contribute to a healthier planet.
Currently, 47 U.S.-based manufacturers and importers collectively fund the national How Life Unfolds marketing campaign.
Regarding the composition of its board, appointed by Vilsack to a three-year term are An Boon of Atlanta-based Graphic Packaging; Tonie Meyers of Sweden-based Billerud; and Juan Pablo Perez Chavez of Europe-based Smurfit Kappa Group, which is in the process of acquiring Atlanta-based WestRock.
Appointed by Vilsack to a one-year term to fill an open seat is Steve Henry of South Carolina-based Domtar. That term begins Jan. 1, 2024.
The eight-member board in its entirety is designed to represent all the grades of paper that fund the How Life Unfolds campaign, which is focused on sustainability.
In addition to the four new appointees, the four returning members of the P+PB board of directors are: Santiago Arbelaez of Memphis, Tennessee-based International Paper, who is the board’s chair; Alpa Sutaria of WestRock, who is vice-chair; Richard Bennett of Illinois-based Pactiv Evergreen, who is secretary/treasurer; and Beth Cormier of Belgium-based Sappi.
