Panasonic document scanners added to EPEAT registry

The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool is an ecolabel system managed by the nonprofit Green Electronics Council.

Panasonic System Solutions Co. of North America, a division of Newark, New Jersey-based Panasonic Corp. of North America, has announced that its KV-S1027C and KV-S1057C scanners have been added to the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) registry.

Registered EPEAT Bronze, Panasonic says its two scanners now meet a list of at least 33 mandatory environmental performance criteria.

Used by the U.S. government, EPEAT is an ecolabel that also incentivizes use of recycled content and that has helped promote the use of recycled content in products such as desktop computers and displays, imaging equipment, televisions and mobile phones. The system is designed to help companies and other organizations select electronics that support their IT and sustainability goals. EPEAT is managed by the nonprofit Green Electronics Council, Portland, Oregon, and tracks more than 4,400 products from more than 60 manufacturers across 43 countries.

The rating differentiates Panasonic’s products from others on the market, the company says, giving government and commercial customers the option to select high-performance electronics that effectively focus on functionality, features and sustainability without limiting product selection.

“EPEAT is excited to see Panasonic’s continuing commitment to sustainability via the addition of the KV-S1026C and KV-S1057C products to the EPEAT Imaging Equipment product category,” says Nancy Gillis, Green Electronics Council’s CEO. “Thousands of public and private sector purchasers globally rely on the EPEAT ecolabel to make sustainable procurement decisions and by achieving EPEAT Bronze, Panasonic has made their KV-S1026C and KV-S1057C products more competitive in the marketplace.”

“We are thrilled that our KV-S1027C and KV-S1057C document scanners received the EPEAT Bronze rating, giving customers access to additional solutions that will help meet their needs both operationally and sustainably,” says Joseph Odore, product manager for document and imaging products, Panasonic System Solutions Co. of North America. “Panasonic is committed to offering best-in-class technology for knowledge and document management, and with this new rating we’re able to deliver multiple solutions that reflect their business environmental values and meet their sustainability goals.”

Since 2003, EPEAT has assessed products based on American National Standards Institute- (ANSI-) approved public standards developed through stakeholder consensus processes and claims of compliance by manufacturers are subject to ongoing verification by qualified certification bodies.
