Pallmann, headquartered in Germany, plans to present the Turbofiner Lynk, type PLMW, during IFAT 2016 in Hall C2, Booth Nos. 117/216, in Munich. The Turbofiner Lynx pulverizes scrap tyres, producing an end product size of minus 425 microns. Scrap tires, precut to 2 to 4 millimetres, or other natural or synthetic rubber, as well as hard-to-grind or temperature-sensitive products, can be processed with the machine, Pallmann says.
This ultra-fine material can be used in the production of new tires or added to insulation boards and other rubber products, the company says.
The entire process is performed at ambient temperature. The feed material does not need to be cooled with nitrogen, Pallmann says, resulting in the maintenance of the rubber characteristics while achieving greatly decreased processing costs.
The precut material is introduced into the Turbofiner Lynx, type PLMW, by a vibratory feeder or rotary valve. Possible contaminants, such as metals, are preliminarily separated using a solenoid coil or an air sifter. Downstream pulverization is performed when the material impacts the grinding path and its high-rpm rotor. Pallmann says the newly developed beater plate geometry and the high circumferential speed of the rotor in the Turbofiner allow for final particle sizes that have not been achieved with traditional ambient grinding processes. The desired end product size can be determined by selecting the suitable grinding track profile.
After the pulverization process, the material is pneumatically suctioned and transported into a downstream filter that separates the powder by particle size. Material that does not correspond to the desired particle size is automatically reintroduced into the pulverization process, Pallmann says.
