A new pallet recycling company has begun operations in Loscoe, United Kingdom. The company, Theaker Recycling, collects wooden pallets from building sites and turn them into mulch which can be used in animal bedding, chipboard and the garden.
The company has its origins in Nottinghamshire, UK in the early 1990s when Chris Theaker started a pallet collection company and tipped them into landfill. The business expanded and moved to Mansfield in 1993 but new legislation from the government presented a business opportunity he couldn't ignore.
"The new rules mean you can't tip wood into landfill sites, so we started collecting the pallets and recycling them," said Chris Theaker, CEO.
The recycling business took off and quickly outgrew its Mansfield site.
Theaker said: "Mansfield Borough Council couldn't find us an alternative so we came to Amber Valley and they were very helpful. We've been able to build our own plant from scratch on the site in Loscoe."
Theaker Recycling, which runs alongside the old Awsworth Pallets, company launched its Loscoe operation at the start of this week. The new site and purpose built factory will help them meet the targets set by the government's 'reduce - re-use - recycle' initiative with their existing customers and advise businesses in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire area.
Since turning to recycling in 2001 Theaker has diverted over 187,500 metric tons of wood waste that would have gone to landfill into re-use. Ripley Today (UK)
