Montana County Rejects Proposed Auto Shredder Project

Pacific Steel & Recycling sought to build an auto shredder in Billings, Montana.

Plans for a three-story car shredder near a West End Billings neighborhood were scrapped by Yellowstone County, Mt., commissioners at a meeting June 28.

The $10 million project, including a shredder and 16-acre recycling yard proposed by Pacific Steel & Recycling, just didn’t match up with nearby properties, including ZooMontana and a residential subdivision, commissioners concluded.

According to the Billings (Montana) Gazette, 18 special conditions had been created to make the project a better fit. It would have been located about 1,400 feet from ZooMontana and 600 feet from the nearest home. But the many conditions indicated to Commissioner Bill Kennedy that Pacific’s plans wouldn’t work.
