“A smoky fire that began when Taylor-Ramsey employees illegally burned plant trash and office waste turned into an area-wide air pollution problem that lasted a number of days,” said Kelly Burch, regional director. “The fire not only violated Pennsylvania’s air and waste regulations, it also posed an extreme nuisance to people living and working near the site of the fire.”
Taylor-Ramsey Corporation operates a lumber processing and drying facility where it generates wood scrap and general trash from the wood processing operations.
Because the waste was still smoldering on June 16, DEP ordered the company to immediately to extinguish the fire and control the liquid run-off from the burning piles of waste. Eventually, Taylor-Ramsey extinguished the fire and removed and properly disposed of the burned waste.
