U.K.-based Oxford Instruments has added two new models to its X-MET8000 series of handheld XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analyzers. The X-MET8000 Optimum and X-MET8000 Smart join the X-MET8000 Expert (available since September 2014).
According to the company, the X-MET8000 range of analyzers has been designed to cover all analysis needs and budgets. The entry-level X-MET8000 Smart analyzer is ideal for the routine identification and analysis of common alloys. The mid-range X-MET8000 Optimum model is designed for high-speed grade identification and analysis, from aluminums to high-temperature alloys to steels, etc., while the X-MET8000 Expert tests of the widest variety of alloys, providing light elements (magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorous and sulfur), tramp and residual elements analysis, Oxford says.
All three X-MET8000 models are fitted with a large-area SDD (silicon drift detector) and high-performance X-ray tube. The analyzers feature an integrated LCD touch screen that can be customized to display only crucial information, ensuring the decision-making process is optimized, according to the company. The X-MET8000 models also offer long battery life and weigh only 3.3 pounds.
