During a recent conference, Owens Corning announced that its line of fiber glass insulation products has been certified by Scientific Certification Systems as containing an average of 35 percent recycled content. The announcement was made at the NAHB Green Building Conference.
The recycled content level is a five percent increase from its previous certification. According to the company the level makes Owens’ certification level the highest in North America.
SCS approved the certification of Owens Corning's signature PINK fiber glass insulation, as well as the company's commercial fiber glass products, only after a rigorous four-step process that included a comprehensive audit of the company's claims, including visits to manufacturing facilities to see the process and interview plant personnel. This recognition by SCS assures building professionals using Owens Corning fiber glass insulation of the recycled content in order to achieve LEED certification and meet other green building guidelines, an increasingly critical measurement used in sustainable building.
The 35 percent post-industrial and post-consumer content in the company's fiber glass products is made possible by enhancements in the Owens Corning manufacturing process that utilize more waste glass from additional sources.
