The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued a $6,000 penalty to Owens-Brockway Glass Container Inc. for violations of its air quality permit at its glass manufacturing facility in Portland, Ore.
The company’s Title V air quality permit requires the company to monitor its particulate matter emissions. The company does this by using an opacity meter to measure the light transmitted through a smoke plume. These measurements indicate particulate matter emission levels.
In July and August 2009, the company submitted to DEQ quarterly emissions and monitoring reports that showed opacity violations.
Owens-Brockway did not appeal the penalty by its April 26 deadline.
