Otto Environmental Systems Expands

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and the state’s Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker have jointly announced that the plastics manufacturing firm Otto Environmental Systems North America Inc. will expand its facility in Mecklenburg County. The company plans to create 32 jobs and invest $7 million over the next three years in Charlotte. The company opened its first domestic plant in Charlotte in 1988.

Otto Environmental Systems is an injection molding company that manufactures plastic products serving multiple markets, including the waste, automotive and material handling industries. The facility currently employs more than 330 people.
 
In a statement, Sharon Decker, North Carolina’s Secretary of Commerce, says, “North Carolina has a strong reputation for manufacturing. We must continue to support this growing sector through investments in education, job training programs and critical infrastructure.”
 

“Otto evaluated expanding other facilities, but after considering all options, North Carolina came out on top,” says Robert Engle, CEO of Otto Environmental Systems North America, Inc. “North Carolina is a business-friendly state and the Secretary of Commerce does a wonderful job working with companies.”
 
The project was made possible in part by a performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund of up to $48,000. The grant is contingent upon proof of job creation and receipt of a local funding match. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds.  
 
Other partners that helped with this project include the North Carolina Department of Commerce, N.C. Community Colleges, Mecklenburg County, City of Charlotte and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
