The board of directors of the Oro Loma Sanitary District, based in San Lorenzo, California, has unanimously voted to appoint Rita Duncan to a vacant seat on the board. Duncan, who took the oath of office and assumed her responsibilities at a Jan. 5, 2016, public meeting, is filling the board vacancy generated by the resignation of former director Howard Kerr. Duncan’s term in office will expire in December 2016 after the general election.
Duncan has more than 30 years of professional experience in performance management, employee training, human resources compliance, safety, wellness and organizational development. She is currently the director of human resources for Pentair Thermal Management in Menlo Park, California. Prior to working with Pentair she was the director of the Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement Program at the Stanford University School of Engineering in Palo Alto, California.
“Our decision was difficult to make because several highly qualified and talented individuals applied for the open seat,” says Oro Loma Sanitary District President Timothy P. Becker. “We ultimately selected Rita Duncan because her education and professional background, which includes human resources, organization dynamics and safety, complements the existing strengths of our board. Rita’s professional background provides a unique perspective that will help the board best serve our community.”
“I sought this position to align my service with the community where I live,” says Duncan. “I appreciate the successful record of safety and environmental stewardship Oro Loma Sanitary District has achieved. I look forward to working with my fellow board members to achieve even higher levels of customer service and protection of the San Francisco Bay.”
The Oro Loma Sanitary District covers a region near San Francisco Bay of about 13 square miles with a population of approximately 135,000, consisting largely of unincorporated areas of Alameda County. The district’s employees and facilities provide residential and commercial solid waste and recycling services and wastewater collection and treatment.
