As many as 2,200 scrap recyclers, consumers and industry suppliers are on their way to Orlando for the 2003 Annual Convention of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI), taking place at the World Center Marriott resort in Orlando, Fla., April 8-12.
The event will feature an exhibit hall with more than 150 industry suppliers, sessions on several scrap industry topics, and guest speakers that include a former astronaut and a comedian and social commentator
The World Center Marriott has hosted previous ISRI Annual Conventions, but this is the first since a recently completed a $100 million renovation and expansion project. The property features 2,000 guest rooms and suites, a redesigned 18-hole golf course, a new spa with an array of treatments and services, a 24-hour fitness center, tropical-themed swimming pools, tennis courts, plus ten restaurants and lounges, ranging from a Starbuck's coffee bar to a Tuscan cuisine restaurant.
Convention sessions cover commodity specific topics (ferrous scrap, aluminum, copper, paper, nickel/stainless) as well as programs centered on exporting to China, changing laws and regulations, and operations topics concerned with taking advantage of new technologies and cutting costs.
ISRI also touts the convention, for its networking opportunities before and after sessions as well as at several social events, including a poolside opening reception, a closing reception at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and at several events in between.
Special guest speakers include Apollo 13 astronaut Jim Lovell and ground controller Gene Kranz, who will recount their NASA missions at the opening general session breakfast. Satirist and former Saturday Night Live cast member Al Franken will speak at the closing general session.
