Oregon DEQ Seeking Comments on Projects

The Department of Environmental Quality is seeking feedback on two projects that are seeking to have their permits renewed.

The state agency is looking for input from the public on a number of projects seeking to have operational permits renewed.

The first project is a permit renewal for the continued operation of the Joseph Transfer station in Wallowa County, Ore. The company has received several notices of non compliance for the operation: the presence of unauthorized materials in the burn pile; depositing solid waste in unauthorized areas of the transfer station; the presence of solid waste in the metals recycling pile; failure to collect used motor oil; not having recycling signage at the transfer station.

However the DEQ notes that corrective actions were addressed, an no compliance issues have been noted since May 2001,

The Oregon DEQ also is seeking public comments on the renewal of a solid waste transfer station permit for the South Lincoln Recycle & Transfer Station.

The facility is located in Waldport, Ore.

The DEQ is proposing to renew the existing solid waste transfer station permit for 10 years. In addition to solid waste, the facility is receiving source-separated recyclables. According to the Oregon DEQ the facility is in compliance with its existing permit and has had no recorded complaints or permit-related problems.
