The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking public comments on Tire Disposal & Recycling Inc.’s (TDR) proposed renewal of a waste tire storage and carrier permit at its Portland facility. The company’s existing permit will expire Jan. 1, 2015.
TDR has been operating as a DEQ-permitted tire storage facility at its Portland location since 2004. The facility, which accepts tires from commercial haulers and the general public, processes more than 4.5 million tires per year. The company chips the whole tires for a variety of end-uses.
TDR and its affiliated companies, Waste Recovery West and Krider Construction, operate in Oregon, Washington, California and Idaho.
With the permit renewal, TDR proposes to add waste tire carrier activities to the existing storage capability.
The deadline for comments is March 19, 2012. Comments can be sent to Holly Pence, Solid Waste Permit Coordinator, DEQ Northwest Region, 2020 SW 4th Ave., Suite 400, Portland, OR 97201, or via email at pence.holly@deq.state.or.us.
