Oregon DEQ Offers School Recycling Award Applications

WRAP 2003 Awards applications due April 16.

Applications for the Waste Reduction Awareness Program (WRAP) 2003 Awards are now available from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and from DEQ’s Solid Waste Program Web site. The awards program is sponsored by DEQ in partnership with the Association of Oregon Recyclers.

The program recognizes Oregon schools (public and private, elementary through high school) and one individual or student group that have developed innovative solutions to reducing solid waste or making more efficient use of materials.

A $500 award will be given to the winner in each of the following categories:

·        Rising Star Award: Recognizes one Oregon school making significant progress in the development of its waste reduction/recycling program.

·        Elementary School Award: Recognizes one outstanding elementary school demonstrating a strong commitment to waste reduction and recycling.

·        Secondary School Award: Recognizes one outstanding middle or high school demonstrating a strong commitment to waste reduction and recycling.

·        Steele Gale Martin Achievement Award: Recognizes an outstanding individual (must be enrolled in K-through-12 at the time of application) or student group making a significant contribution to waste reduction and recycling efforts in their community and to Oregon.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 16. Winners will be notified in early May.
