The state of Oregon Department of Environmental Quality will be holding a meeting Jan. 8th in Portland to discuss the rigid plastic container recycling rates and determine stakeholder interests in potential changes to Oregon's rigid plastic container recycling statute or rules. This meeting meets a DEQ commitment to gauge the level of interest in a serious conversation about works or does not work under current laws.
The tentative agenda for this meeting includes discussion of (1) the recycling rate for rigid plastic containers, including the compliance rate for 2008 and the anticipated impact of the expanded bottle bill; (2) DEQ priorities for material recovery, including plastics; and (3) stakeholder interest in potential changes in Oregon's rigid plastic container recycling law, including whether a process should be undertaken to explore changes and if so, the timing for that process.
