The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking input from the public on a proposed permit for Columbia Two to open a scrap tire carrier and storage permit in Portland, Ore. According to the Oregon DEQ, if approved, the permit would expire on Jan. 1, 2013.
In addition to the tire collection site, the company operates a MRF at the location.
The proposed facility will accept whole tires for baling and transporting to off-site recyclers. The company also will act as a permitted waste tire carrier, which will allow the company to pick up tires from off-site locations and transport them to the facility. The facility will not grind, shred, burn or bury the tires it collected.
Comments can be sent to Columbia Recycling PDX Waste Tire Permit, c/o Holly Pence, Solid Waste permit coordinator, DEQ Northwest Region, 2020 SW 4th Ave., Suite 400, Portland, OR 97201.
