Ontario Municipal Group has Recycling Info Available

Ontario agency touts its recycling successes.

 

Waste Diversion Ontario announced that the 2002 Tonnage and Blue Box Financial Datacall information has been posted on its website at www.wdo.ca.

 

Tonnage data are provided for each municipality for the calendar year 2002 for Blue Box materials, organic waste, household special wastes, electronic waste and other recyclable materials while cost data are provided for residential Blue Box programs.

 

With the approval of the Blue Box Program Plan on December 22, 2003, brand owners and first importers of products that result in packaging and printed materials collected through residential Blue Box programs will be responsible for 50 percent of the net costs of the operation of these programs commencing February 1, 2004.

 

Stewardship Ontario is the industry funding organization responsible for the collection of levies from its members, and subsequent disbursement of funds to municipal programs. Residential Blue Box tonnage and cost data provide the basis for funding to municipalities through the Blue Box Program Plan.

 

Tonnage data has been verified by a committee comprised of both municipal and industry representatives. Blue Box financial data have been verified by a committee comprised of both municipal and industry representatives and a third party firm specializing in municipal finances.

 

Waste Diversion Ontario was created by the Waste Diversion Act, 2002, to develop, implement and operate waste diversion programs for designated wastes, including Blue Box Materials, Used Oil Material and Used Tires, in accordance with this Act.
