Ontario Electronic Stewardship Recognizes Staples Canada for Expanding WEEE Collection through Canada
The Ontario Electronic Stewardship has congratulated Staples Canada on becoming a leader among retail outlets to accept unwanted electronics and televisions for reuse and recycling. By December this year, Staples Canada will have 85 stores collecting electrical and electronic equipment.
"We are very pleased with this new development of our provincial program," said Carol Hochu, executive director of OES. "Staples has been a strong supporter of this program right from the beginning when we launched in April." OES manages the WEEE program for Ontario.
Under the first phase of the program, WEEE includes desktop and portable computers, printers, keyboard, mice, optical drives and televisions.
The first six months of the program saw the collection of 7,100 metric tons of material.
OES is a not-for-profit organization formed by retail, information technology and consumer electronics companies to implement the WEEE Program Plan under the Waste Diversion Act, and is responsible for developing and implementing the WEEE Program Plan, in co-operation with Waste Diversion Ontario
