The ACOM Solutions, Inc. online printer supplies store, http://www.orderprintersupplies.com, began a program for recycling used laser printer and inkjet cartridges. The company also has extended access to the program to both customers and non-customers.
Gregory Church, vice president of marketing and communications for ACOM, noted, "This is an environment-friendly move," he said. "We sell cartridges for virtually all types and makes of printers and therefore can accept all printing supply cartridges. We re-use them wherever possible, but never more than once. Our objective is to take them out of the environment because if they are consigned to land fills, these cartridges may never disintegrate and if they should, they could leach dangerous chemicals into the soil or into nearby aquifers."
Persons interested in participating in ACOM's cartridge recycling program can do so by registering at http://www.orderprintersupplies.com and setting up recycling account. Following registration, they will be able to order whatever shipping supplies they need to send in their used cartridges: boxes, bags and labels that can be downloaded for printing. Postage is prepaid and there is no charge for shipping, Church said.
