OmniSource to Use SAI Technology Nationwide

SAI enterprise software will link OmniSource scrap yards with SDI melt shops.

Systems Alternatives International LLC (SAI), Maumee, Ohio, has announced that its Commercial Recycling Enterprise System (CRES) will be used at OmniSource Corp.’s scrap yards and trading offices nationwide.

SAI says CRES will be deployed within OmniSource to operate with and complement the SAI Integrated Mill Procurement and Costing System (IMPACT) used by Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI), the steelmaking company that owns OmniSource.

In a news release, SAI describes CRES as a “software solution [that] delivers enterprise visibility to key managers across multiple locations, levels of authority and management disciplines in one integrated solution.”

According to John Underwood, president of SAI, “With CRES, OmniSource’s executive, financial, operations and commercial managers can all rely on timely and accurate information to drive their business decisions.”

Bob Francis, vice president and chief information officer of SDI, says, “We chose SAI because of its experience in delivering proven commercial recycling applications and its focus on the largest firms in our industry. Their advanced software applications were the best fit for our requirements and they are committed to delivering the types of professional services that we require.”

Comments SAI’s Underwood, “We look forward to partnering with OmniSource Corp., which is one of the premiere commercial recycling and brokerage firms in the world.” He adds, “SDI has used our IMPACT mill commodity procurement software at all of its mill sites for a number of years. OmniSource’s implementing CRES will provide SDI with an unparalleled opportunity to streamline information management from their scrap yards to their melt shops.”

OmniSource Corp. (www.omnisource.com), based in Fort Wayne, Ind., is one of the largest processors and distributors of scrap and secondary metals in North America. SDI (www.steeldynamics.com), also based in Fort Wayne, operates five electric arc furnace steel mills.
