OmniSource Corp., a subsidiary of Steel Dynamics Inc., has purchased 12 acres and a building in Toledo, Ohio that is adjacent to the company’s scrap metal recycling facility. The existing facility operates one of OmniSource’s auto shredders.
The purchase price for the land was around $1.35 million, according to one local report. OmniSource received a special use permit to allow the facility to be used as a recycling center.
Ben Eisbart, a spokesman for OmniSource, says the expansion will allow the company to boost its retail recycling business. “We are focused on being aggressive with our customer service,” Eisbart says.
The decision to target the retail business with the new Toledo property is part of a company-wide strategy to increase its business in the retail recycling sector. The company also has invested in operations in other regions to boost the recyclables coming from the public.
