The Three Rivers, Mich., City Commission has given OmniSource a special-use permit and a variance to open a small scrap metal facility in that city. The yard will be at a site formerly occupied by Sturgis Iron & Metal.
A spokeswoman for the city says OmniSource will be installing fencing and there will be requirements to reduce the noise at the location under the conditions of the deal.
The plant is expected to be used primarily as a feeder yard for some of OmniSource’s larger facilities in the Michigan cities of Kalamazoo and Jackson.
