OmniSource Receives OSHA Safety Award

Scrap recycler receives national VPP Award for a second time.

Indiana Commissioner of Labor, Miguel R. Rivera Sr., has presented OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Merit Award to the Fort Wayne Ferrous Division of OmniSource Corp.

In making the award, Commissioner Rivera noted that OmniSource is “at the tip of the sphere, setting the standard for other companies like this in the United States. Obtaining the VPP award is difficult and they’ve done it twice.”  The Fort Wayne Nonferrous Division received the VPP Star Award in 2004.

OSHA’s VPP Merit Award is presented to those companies that “exhibit exemplary occupational safety and health management programs,” according to the agency. The award is based on OmniSource’s demonstrated success in reducing safety and health hazards in the workplace.

In accepting the award, Danny Rifkin, president of OmniSource stated, “This accomplishment serves to demonstrate the commitment of our people and our company to a truly safe working environment in a very tough industry.”
