OmniSource Corp., Fort Wayne, Ind., is tying in its retail scrap purchases in September to relief efforts to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region.
Calling the plan a corporate-wide effort to raise money for Hurricane Katrina relief, the company has announced that one penny for every pound of nonferrous retail material and a dollar for every ton of retail ferrous material purchased at the company’s retail locations will be donated to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
“This effort will give the public an opportunity to recycle scrap metal and assist in making a contribution to the devastation and suffering experienced as a result of Hurricane Katrina,” notes a company press release. The news release says the effort is reflective of the company’s core values of “perseverance, respect, caring and citizenship.”
OmniSource Corp. is one of North America’s largest scrap recycling companies with annual sales of more than $1.8 billion generated from 6.5 million tons of ferrous and 700 million pounds of nonferrous metals. The company employs more than 1,750 people in 35 scrap processing facilities and sales offices in seven states and Canada.
