Walter Chaput, recently retired production manager for the General Motors Powertrain Division casting plant in Defiance, Ohio, has joined OmniSource Corp.’s Ferrous Group. The Fort Wayne, Ind.-based scrap company says Chaput’s “extensive experience in the foundry industry will complement the company’s foundry marketing effort.”
Chaput earned a bachelors degree in metallurgical engineering from Michigan Tech University, and a masters degree in industrial manufacturing from Kettering University (formerly GMI). Additionally, Chaput has served as chairman of the American Foundry Society - Toledo Chapter, as president of the Defiance (Ohio) Chamber of Commerce and was past president and is currently a member of the board of the Ohio Cast Metals Association.
OmniSource Corp. is one of North America’s largest metal recycling companies, with annual sales of more than $1.9 billion generated annually from 6.5 million tons of ferrous scrap and 650 million pounds of nonferrous metals. The company employs more than 1,700 people in 34 scrap processing facilities and sales offices in seven states and Canada.
