Summit County works out arrangement for e-scrap, paper.

The Summit-Akron Solid Waste Management Authority, one of 52 solid waste agencies in the state, has renewed two contracts for recycling programs in the country.

At a meeting held March 14th, the agency agreed to a one-ear extension with RET3 Job Corp. to operate and handle electronic scrap and television sets. Under the contract, residents of Summit County can bring all types of electronic scrap or television sets to a collection center manned by representatives of RET3. There is a $5 charge for 36-inch television sets; for those larger there is a $10 a set fee. There is no charge for other types of electronic scrap delivered.

The program runs from April to September.

The company palletizes the collected material and ships them to another location. Some computer are refurbished, while the company also performs recycling of other equipment.

At the same March 14 meeting the Authority also signed a one-year renewal with a company called ACROA Corp., to operate a paper collection program for smaller offices in the county. According to local press reports the program collected around 200,000 pounds of paper and corrugated last year. Walker notes that at the present time the program has 70 different offices involved in the collection program.
