A road project in North Jackson, Ohio, is being entirely funded by the county recycling division and will use recycled materials, according to a report in the Youngstown Vindicator (Youngstown, Ohio).
The reconstruction, widening and repaving project on Silica Road in North Jackson will use recycled blast furnace flag for the road base. Slag, crushed concrete or fly ash can also be mixed into the concrete used for repaving, according to the report. Reinforcing steel bars must also use 50-percent recycled steel.
The $131,000 project is funded entirely by Mahoning County’s recycling division, called the Green Team. According to the report, about 400 feet of the two-lane road will be widened from 18 to 30 feet.
