The state of Ohio’s EPA has ordered two property owners in the state to remove scrap tires that have been accumulating at their sites.
In Trumbull County, the agency ordered two people, Frank and Lorell Naypaver, to remove around 2,000 tires from their site. Starting more than 10 years ago the two were being cited by various county agencies for open dumping.
In the second case, Glen Cook, was ordered to remove around 1,000 tires from his property in Hicksville.
According to the Ohio EPA, the site had 14 inspections between Oct. 2003 and this past February. During these inspections Cook was cited multiple times for violating the state’s solid waste and scrap tire laws. These violations included open dumping of solid waste, failure to provide mossquiteo control records, establishing a scrap tire facility without a license, failure to submit a scrap tire storage facility registration or permit application and illegal disposal of C&D debris.
In both cases the EPA has given 120 days to remove the tires. In the latter case, the EPA has given Cook 30 days to remove all the solid waste and C&D waste.
