Agmet LLC has agreed to pay the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) more than $23,000 to settle past hazardous waste violations at its metal hydroxide recycling and metal oxide concentrate production facility in Oakwood Village, Ohio. The company addressed the violations and now operates in compliance with Ohio’s hazardous waste laws.
During a June 2007 facility inspection, Ohio EPA found Agmet failed to properly manage residual quantities of metal hydroxide bearing filtercake. The company also failed to implement spill response plans, document spills and properly train employees for handling the material.
Agmet removed all visible contamination resulting from releases of metal hydroxide and metal concentrate at the facility. The company also improved its operation to reduce the risk of future releases.
The $23,240 penalty includes $18,592 to Ohio’s hazardous waste cleanup fund and $4,648 to Ohio EPA’s clean diesel school bus program.
