The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has announced that applications are now being accepted from local governments, schools, colleges, businesses and non-profit organizations throughout Ohio for $2 million in Recycling Market Development Grants and $1 million in Scrap Tire Recycling Grants. The application deadline is February 2, 2007 for both programs.
Recycling Market Development Grants of $150,000 to $250,000 each are available to counties, solid waste management districts, cities with populations of more than $50,000, businesses and non-profit organizations that develop the infrastructure for collecting, processing and developing markets for recyclable materials.
Applicants may sponsor as a partner, private sector business or non-profit organization that handles the type of recycled materials targeted by the grant program. These materials include used carpet/padding, electronics, glass, office paper, corrugated cardboard, newsprint, food, fiber, plastics and construction and demolition debris.
Each recipient must provide a match equal to or greater than the grant award. All projects funded by the grant must be completed within two years from the time the money is received.
Funding for Recycling Market Development Grants comes from a disposal fee charged on construction and demolition debris in Ohio.
Scrap Tire Recycling Grants of $75,000 to $350,000 each are available to towns, townships, counties, school districts, solid waste management districts, park districts, colleges or universities for recycling scrap tires in useful ways or to expand used tire processing. Businesses or non-profit organizations seeking scrap tire grants must secure a sponsor to serve as grant applicant.
