Ohio DNR Awards Grant Money

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded grants totaling close to $190,000 to a number of counties in the state. The goal of the grants are to improve the efficiency of recycling centers in the state.

Each grant recipient will receive up to $35,000 to improve the processing and mareting of the materials collected by the recycling program. A 50 percent local match is required.

 “This grant program is aimed at helping public and non-profit recycling centers operate more efficiently,” said Ron Kolbash, chief of the ODNR Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention. “Ohio's local governments and non-profit organizations have a strong commitment to recycling. This program is intended to complement those efforts.”

Awarding of the grants completes phase two of the project. The seven recipients successfully completed phase one last year, which required hiring private consultants to conduct efficiency assessments of operations at their facilities. ODNR granted $10,000 to each at that time to help with those assessments.

The grant winners are the following:

The Butler County Solid Waste Management District will receive $35,000 to improve efficiency at the Miami University Recycling Center in Oxford.

The Coshocton/Fairfield/Licking/Perry Solid Waste District will receive $29,250 for the Lancaster/Fairfield County Community Action Recycling Center in Lancaster. The district will receive another $33,300 to improve efficiency at PERCO, Inc. in New Lexington.

Muskingum County will receive $34,848 for the Muskingum County Recycling Warehouse in Zanesville.

The Portage County Solid Waste Management District will receive $25,000 to improve operations at the Portage County Recycling Center in Kent.

The Shelby County Commissioners will receive $6,400 for the Shelby County Recycling Center in Sidney.

The Wyandot Solid Waste Management District will receive $25,000 to improve operations at the Wyandot County Recycling Center in Carey.
