The Summit-Akron Solid Waste Management Authority signed a one-year contract with E-Waste LLC to handle and process a wide range of electronics collected at the county’s hazardous waste collection facility. The contract, signed on March 13, is for one year with a two-year option.
The hazwaste facility is open six months a year. As part of the contract E-Waste will operate at the site two days a week. The company will accept a wide range of electronics at no charge to the customers, although there will be a charge for county residents dropping off television sets.
Last year, through its contracted vendor, collected around 120,000 pounds of electronic scrap. This year, according to Yolanda Walker with the county authority, they hope to collect as much as 125,000 pounds of electronic scrap.
