Ohio Baler Owner Acquires United Services

Mike McChrystal acquires Rochester, N.Y., equipment and services company.

Mike McChrystal, the owner of Ohio Baler Co., based in Cleveland, has acquired United Services GP Inc. (USGP), a Rochester, N.Y.-based full-service equipment sales and service company for the recycling industry. USGP also provides rigging services.

McChrystal says the acquisition complements Ohio Baler’s national reach as a distributor and service provider for the recycling industry and allows the company to greatly expand its rigging business. As part of the acquisition, United Services’ name will change to OBC Rigging. McChrystal says the name change reflects the company’s emphasis on the rigging business.
“We feel the purchase of United Services will allow us to grow in new business segments outside of recycling,” McChrystal says. “OBC Rigging will continue the services provided by United. However, we are looking to expand the operation to provide increased rigging and equipment service on a national level. This acquisition will also allow us to provide competitive and quality installation work for our Ohio Baler customers throughout the Midwest.”
He adds, “The new company also allows us to branch out into a different market, and it will lead us to larger opportunities for Ohio Baler.”
Frank Towns, a 32-year veteran in the rigging business, will head the new operation.
“We’re very fortunate to have Frank on board,” McChrystal says. “His experience and expertise will be invaluable as we grow and transition from United Services.”
McChrystal says he expects to relocate OBC Rigging to Cleveland by the end of this year.
