The Office of the Ohio Attorney General, on behalf of Ohio EPA, has obtained a judgment from The Morrow County, Ohio, Court of Common Pleas that orders the removal and proper disposal of approximately 750,000 scrap tires on the property of Lawrence Rader in Marengo, Ohio. Rader also is ordered to pay a civil penalty of $731,000, which would be deposited into the Scrap Tire Abatement Fund, administered by Ohio EPA.
Within six months, the scrap tires are to be removed by a registered scrap tire transporter to a licensed scrap tire disposal or recovery facility. Documentation of the transport and disposal of the scrap tires must be provided to Ohio EPA.
In addition, as the weather warms, Rader is required to implement mosquito control measures by applying a registered pesticide or larvicide to the scrap tires. These measures must be continued until all the scrap tires are removed.
