Upshur County, Tenn., officials have six weeks to come up with $5 million in funding for an $18 million tire recycling plant in Buckhannon, according to Development Authority Director Arnold Arrowwood.
The Upshur County Development Authority and Canadian-based Environmental Waste International were seeking $5 million in funding from the state economic development grant committee.
That request was denied during the first round of cuts by the committee.
Environmental Waste International has given Upshur County leaders until the end of the year to fund the remainder of the project. The company has already generated $13 million of the project.
If the remainder of the project is not funded, Environmental Waste International could move the recycling plant to Tennessee, Arrowwood said.
"We wanted to explore why it wasn't funded and if there are other types of funding from the state for the project," said Arrowwood.
"We can't let this thing drag on," said Arrowwood. Clarksburg (WV) Exponent-TelegramLatest from Recycling Today
