The New York City Department of Sanitation will resume issuing notices of violations for failing to recycle plastics. The enforcement procedure began Nov. 12.
John Doherty, commissioner of the Sanitation Department, noted that citizens have had a 45-day warning period to begin sorting out various types of plastic. “DSNY has purposely extended the warning period on plastics so that more residents can know what is expected as they prepare their recyclables for collection.”
As part of its public outreach, DSNY also has begun putting informational stickers on recycling containers that were placed out on the wrong week of scheduled pickup. The city went to alternate week recycling in July as part of its effort to reduce its budget.Latest from Recycling Today
