New York Power Authority announced the transfer of lower cost power from the Encore Paper Co. to SCA Tissue, N.A., for the operation of a South Glens Falls paper recycling facility.
"Without those allocations and their resulting electric-bill savings, Encore would have been hard pressed to undertake multi-million dollar expansions that boosted its manufacturing capacity and employment levels," said Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno, whose legislative district includes Saratoga County. "I'm grateful to the Power Authority, and Governor Pataki, for assuring that this economic power continues to support those jobs."
The transferred electricity is from a block of NYPA-supplied energy known as High Load Factor Power, for employers willing to make long-term commitments to expand their operations and add jobs. It's one of several allocation programs administered by NYPA, under the leadership of Governor George E. Pataki, to promote the creation and retention of jobs throughout New York State.
SCA also operates a paper products manufacturing facility in Greenwich, N.Y., in addition to the South Glen Falls facility it purchased from Encore Paper in November 2001. The company is the third largest tissue manufacturer in North America.Latest from Recycling Today
