Scrap Recycler Withdraws Petition to Open Plant in Illinois

According to a local news article, Nuvareach Scrap Iron Corp. has withdrawn its petition for a special use permit to open a scrap metal recycling facility in Streator, Ill. The company had been working with the city planning commission over the past several months, although the company had postponed several planned public hearings recently.

An article by My WebTimes, reports that an attorney for the company confirmed that the company, headquartered in Chicago, was no longer interested in the property.

"The long and short of it is logistics and financial feasibility," Atsaves told The Times.

A public hearing was held in October but Nuvareach was not in attendance. Then the corporation asked to reschedule a November hearing.

"There's been some concern about the hours of operation with its proximity to residential neighborhoods from potential buyers," Bianchi said. "It makes it extremely difficult to find a new owner with those restrictions."
At the October public hearing, City Engineer Jeremy Palm outlined the recommended conditions if the plant were to operate.

One of those conditions "restricted work hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, including deliveries and truck idling." Another stated "mechanical equipment utilized within the buildings that generate noise levels more than 90 decibels at the south property line of the site should be utilized only from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays."
