Nucor Corp. has begun producing its first heat and cast its first slat the middle of last month at the former Trico Steel facility it acquired earlier this year. Nucor reported that the re-start comes less than 60 days after it closed on the acquisition.
Nucor Steel Decatur is now regularly processing pickled and oiled product for customers on a toll basis. Nucor expects to ship coils from Decatur later this month, two months ahead of the original start-up schedule.
"The successful start-up of operations at the recently acquired Decatur sheet mill is an important milestone in Nucor's growth strategy," said Dan DiMicco, Nucor's vice chairman, president and CEO.
"Progress on the Decatur start-up, combined with on-going programs to optimize the performance of existing operations and the encouraging progress in start-up at the new Castrip facility makes us very optimistic regarding Nucor's future."Latest from Recycling Today
