Nucor reported consolidated sales for the first half of 2002 increased 3 percent to $2.169 billion, compared with $2.106 billion in last year's first half. Composite sales price per ton decreased 4 percent while total tons shipped to outside customers increased 7 percent.
Net earnings for the current year's first half were $80 million, compared with $66 million in the first half of 2001.
In the second quarter, Nucor's consolidated sales increased 6 percent to $1.142 billion, compared with $1.079 billion in last year's second quarter. Composite sales price per ton remained unchanged from the second quarter of 2001 while total tons shipped to outside customers increased 5 percent.
Composite sales price per ton increased 6 percent from the first quarter of 2002. Net earnings for this year's second quarter were $59,700,000, compared with $33,300,000 in the second quarter of 2001.
The second quarter and first half of 2002 established new tonnage records for steel production, total steel shipments and steel shipments to outside customers.
In the first half of 2002, steel production was 6.754 million tons, compared with 6.206 million tons produced in the first half of 2001.
Total steel shipments were 6.665 million tons in the first half of 2002, compared with 6.163 million tons in last year's first half.
