Nucor Corp.’s Nucor Steel Decatur subsidiary completed the acquisition of Trico Steel Co., LLC for $116.7 million. The facility has an annual capacity of about 1.9 million tons. The addition of the facility will increase Nucor’s sheet production by 30 percent.
“The addition of these assets will support our flat-rolled strategy to build profitable market share and broaden our sheet product portfolio to include higher quality grades," said Dan DiMicco, Nucor's vice chairman, president and CEO. "Start-up will commence after we have completed the improvements to the facility. We expect to ship coils from Decatur by year-end."
Over the past several quarters Nucor has used the slump in steel markets to make a number of strategic acquisitions. The company also recently completed the acquisition of Birmingham Steel.
