Northeast Resource Recovery Association (NRRA), a Epsom, New Hampshire-based nonprofit, has completed recycling workshops and training at Bethel Elementary School, Bethel, Vermont. The workshops are part of the White River Solid Waste Alliance’s 2019 school outreach efforts.

According to a release, the alliance’s goal is to “assist schools in their region to become compliant with Vermont’s Universal Recycling law,” which will phase in a full organic disposal ban by 2020.

Workshops “Recycling & Composting in Your Town” and “Waste=Global Climate Change” were presented by NRRA’s School Recycling CLUB educators along with hands-on activities. Maintenance Director John Hubble was a special guest speaker and provided tips on how the students can reduce their waste. More than 50 elementary students attended four workshops March 21.

Technical assistance training was also provided. NRRA Educator Julia Le May conducted a Star Assessment, NRRA’s proprietary school recycling inventory and review. She also provided training on indoor air quality and green cleaning for the custodial staff, consisting of a comprehensive inventory and analysis of cleaning products and practices used in the school.
