NRC Kicks off Sunday Evening

Austin, Texas, will host annual recycling congress.

The National Recycling Coalition is preparing to host its 21st Annual Congress & Exposition, taking place in Austin, Texas, starting Sunday evening, Sept. 8

Attendees have their first networking opportunity this Sunday evening at the Host Committee reception. The kick-off event will take place at a wildlife ranch, where exotic animals such as the scimitar-horned Oryx graze. Buses to and from the ranch in Creedmore, Texas, will run from the Austin Convention Center beginning Sunday at 5;15 p.m. For $40, attendees can sit on a large covered porch and sip a cold beer while looking out over 800 acres of hills filled with exotic animals. According to the NRC and the Recycling Alliance of Texas, gourmet western grub will be prepared by the Mayor of Creedmore. Also on the agenda: “Continuous on and off stage entertainment, live and silent auctions, buffalo chip tossin', trick ropin', dancin', card playin', have your picture taken on a live Longhorn Steer, and receive down-right classy souvenirs,” according to the NRC.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, NRC delegates, attendees and exhibitors will get down to business with NRC general session and committee meetings, educational sessions and exhibit hall hours.

Attendess of the annual event include public sector recycling coordinators, state and federal officials, private sector recycling managers, recycling business and industry leaders, nonprofit recycling managers and other individuals committed to recycling.

Several facility tours are also available to interested attendees. Educational session topics include maximizing collection within municipal programs, product stewardship initiatives, beverage container recycling and federal environmental initiatives.
