The Northern Ohio Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) has announced the recipients of its 2009 scholarship awards.
“During these trying economic times it makes the chapter proud to make these awards to deserving students,” remarks chapter president Matt Kripke of Toledo’s Kripke Enterprises Inc. “ISRI members have always worked to serve their communities, and our annual scholarship awards are an important way in which we do that” says Kripke.
This year’s recipients are: Steve J. Ehret; Justa C. Link; John M. Lyons and Daniel J. Staller.
Ehret is a junior at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. He is studying electrical engineering and “has maintained both an excellent record of academic achievement and volunteer and community activities,” according to the ISRI Chapter’s news release. Ehret was sponsored by ISRI member Timken Co., Canton, Ohio.
Link is a junior at Spring Arbor University, Spring Arbor, Mich., studying social work. Link “has demonstrated continued academic success while continuing full-time employment,” notes the news release. She was sponsored by ISRI member Progressive Iron & Metal, Fremont, Ohio.
Lyons intends to begin his post-high school education at the University of Pittsburgh this fall, beginning its pre-pharmacy program. Over the course of his high school years Lyons demonstrated a consistent track record of academic achievement and community service, says Northern Ohio ISRI. He was sponsored by ISRI member Harris Products Group, Piqua, Ohio.
Staller will continue his studies at Lake Erie College, Painesville, Ohio, in the area of business. Entering his sophomore year, Staller “has demonstrated a unique commitment to community service while maintaining excellence in his academic studies,” according to the news release. He was sponsored by ISRI member Wilkoff & Sons, Cleveland.
