Northern Metals Recycling, based in Minneapolis, is planning to relocate its Bismarck, N.D., scrap metal facility.
According to Bismarck City Attorney Charles Whitman, Northern Metals’ present 8-acre location is not large enough to meet the company’s processing needs. As well, Whitman says a significant amount of the land can’t be used for processing.
The proposed location, in an area that is zoned for heavy industry, will allow the company to increase its retail business. “The useable acreage is much bigger,” Whitman notes.
The company is expected to submit its plans and apply for a special use permit to open the new yard in Bismarck by the end of 2011. Northern Metals Recycling, Whitman adds, would like to be in its new location by sometime in 2012.
Northern Metals Recycling is a subsidiary of Westbrook, U.K.-based multi-national scrap firm European Metal Recycling Ltd.
