During a special meeting of the Jamestown, North Dakota, City Council, a curbside recycling contract with Renaissance Recycling, based in Jamestown, to be implemented by July 2017 was approved.
According to a report in the Jamestown Sun, the contract length is for five years, with a possible five-year renewal. The contract and the recycling program will be reviewed annually by the council and Renaissance Recycling.
The rate for the program will be $5.55 per month per household, with inflation-related increases in subsequent years, according to Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen, who addressed the council, the newspaper reports.
Under the terms of the contract, the Jamestown Sun states, the costs of residual materials will be split between the city and Renaissance Recycling for the first six months of the program before completely becoming the responsibility of Renaissance.
The city also will transition to a pay-as-you-throw program for garbage, with the rates to be set within 30 to 90 days, according to the newspaper. Three sizes of garbage containers will be offered to residents through the program.
